Saudi football fans are turning their attention to the United States, where the Saudi Arabia national team are putting the final touches to their preparations for World Cup 2026. The Green Falcons begin against Uruguay on Monday 15 June at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, in Group H.

A tough group

Saudi Arabia were drawn alongside Uruguay — coached by Marcelo Bielsa — European champions Spain, and debutants Cape Verde. With the new 48-team format allowing the best third-placed teams to advance, qualification remains a realistic target if the team performs to its potential.

Donis leads a new era

Greek coach Georgios Donis took charge in April 2026, replacing Hervé Renard. His squad is built around a core of Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr players, reflecting the rapid growth of the Saudi Pro League.

Key players

Captain Salem Al-Dawsari remains the most dangerous attacking force from the left. Mohammed Al-Owais (63 caps) is expected to start in goal, while Saud Abdulhamid, with experience at Lens in France, adds European know-how at right-back.

The road ahead

After Uruguay, Saudi Arabia face Spain on 21 June before closing the group against Cape Verde on 27 June — three matches to prove their place on the world stage. Stay with Malaab Al-An for full coverage of the Green Falcons' World Cup journey.
